Municipality of Perama: A Model of Care for the Family!
The Municipality of Perama, as part of its educational activities aimed at informing and raising awareness within the local community on critical social issues, organized a Parent Counseling Program delivered by specialized scientists from NGO Thallo, running from January to March 2025.
The objective of the Program was to inform and sensitize parents on matters concerning family relations, the developmental stage of adolescence, the development of communication skills, juvenile delinquency, internet use, and more, so that parents may better understand their children’s needs, promoting responsibility, cooperation, self-discipline, autonomy, and respect, while simultaneously strengthening their mutual relationship.
The Program was implemented by Eva Kogiannaki (Lawyer, Family Counselor) and Myrsini Pykni (Mental Health Counselor, Career Guidance & Professional Orientation Counselor). The group of parents that was formed organized its journey with stops at five sessions, where parents discussed, interacted, and expressed their views in an experiential way. The warm hospitality of the Group at the city’s Evening Gymnasium signaled the School’s opening towards the community.
On 30/4/25, the cycle of the parent group was completed with the invited guest Mrs. Xeni Dimitriou, Honorary Prosecutor of the Supreme Court, who conversed with parents about the journey of parenthood, shared experiences, and urged them to stand by their children, rewarding them, but at the same time setting clear boundaries. The Principal of the Evening Gymnasium, Kelly Varytymiadou, and the teachers welcomed her with open arms, while students had the opportunity to interact with her, developing a creative dialogue about human relationships, the value of education, and their dreams. Her conversation with parents, students, teachers, and community members touched all our hearts.
By caring for the family, we can care for our children, since the impact of the family environment on the child’s psychological, emotional, social, and cognitive development is crucial.
Mrs. Stella Papamichail, Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at the University of West Attica, honored the event with her presence.
The event was attended by Mayor Yiannis Lougoudakos, Deputy Mayors T. Mavreas, G. Yalelis, the Secretary of the Municipal Council K. Pentarvanis, as well as community members.
